A Chinese story has it: a fish heard some men talking on a pier about a miraculous substance called water. The fish was so intrigued that he called his fish friends together and profoundly announced he was going in quest of this wonderful stuff. They gave him a fitting ceremony and sent him on his way. Long after they had given him up as lost on his perilous journey he swam home, old, tired, worn. They hastened to greet him and asked urgently, "Did you find it? Did you find it?" "Yes", replied the old fish, " You would not believe what I found." Whereupon the old fish swam slowly away.

And back on land this searching is so beautifully illustrated by The Musk Deer, a little animal no more than one meter in height. The male spends much of his life wandering around, sniffing the air to track the source of the beautiful fragrance he smells. What he doesn't know is that it comes from a gland near his own belly button. So he's seeking externally what's a natural part of himself.

The fish went in search of water, the musk deer went in search of musk, both eventually found that they already had what they were searching for. We can learn much from nature. When we pause for a moment and see our own searches. What are you searching for? If the seeking of the fish and the musk deer resonate with you, then instead of journeying outside for what you are seeking, I invite you to journey with me and look within, and experience what you are seeking there. When we pause and seek within, seekers become finders.


This is a deeply personal experience of the sacred, of the subtle and profound. And this is about experiencing it yourself. You could write a Ph.D on sunsets and have never allowed your self to truly experience a sunset. Once you have experienced it you can then develop and satisfy your minds understanding. Before you have allowed yourself to experience it however your mind will be in the way. This is a process of surrender.

My spiritual awakening has led me on a journey through the raw times of life, and I have been present with many people during the transitions of birth and death.
Spiritual awakening feels like it is happens the most when we experience order coming face-to-face with chaos.  The interface between order( what we hold as we know) and chaos( what we do not yet know or understand) opens a portal, an opportunity for growth for awakening. When we are seeking and searching we experience this interface between what we are seeking and the sense of not knowing how to find it. In these moments we can either continue to search and seek externally, or instead we can step through the portal that opens, and see that what we have been seeking externally, we already have within us.

In these moments of deep spirituality we are always faced with a choice -- to open the portal or not. To continue to seek and search externally or to surrender and truely experience what we have been seeking within. Opening the portal is choosing Love and in this action we see the illusion of fear and guilt.

It sounds so simple, and it is, yet in the moment when we are sitting on the cusp of a portal, our mind can come up with so many reasons to keep  runnning. Something deep within calls us forward to experience the depth of this spiritual moment. Our spiral of development continues either up or down depending on how much we resist each moment or not. This deep calling will bring us home to Love.
 
When a moment of enlightenment is achieved and the person experiencing it "Allows" it, and allows the moment to exist just as it is, the portal opens with ease, revealing a state of inspiration, clarity, connection .... Love

Spiritual awakening can occur in the seemingly ordinary unfolding of our everyday lives, and the opportunity is there in every moment if we care to see it. You can recognize it by the feeling of your heart opening, a peace beyond all understanding flowing through your entire being, and the knowing from the core from the essence of your being of the connection and oneness of Love.
